We are delighted to inform you that the Constitutional Law Society, National Law University Odisha is conducting its 7^th Double Credit Course on the theme of “Law, Power And Privilege In Indian Constitutionalism And Beyond”. The course has been scheduled in an online mode from 1^st February 2026 to 22^nd February 2026.

Background to the Theme:

Despite constitutional guarantees, discrimination in India persists across institutions, schools, workplaces, hospitals, families, public offices, and private markets. This course becomes especially relevant in such a diverse democracy, where discrimination operates not only as an individual wrong but as a systemic phenomenon embedded in institutions, relationships, and cultural norms. This course examines the layered operations of caste, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, and reproductive inequality in modern India.

It draws from landmark judgments, global jurisprudence, social-movement histories, and contemporary scholarship to understand how discrimination is produced, justified, contested, and regulated. By grounding legal analysis in lived experiences and current events, the course highlights the realities that shape access to dignity and equality today, from caste bias in elite institutions to medical discrimination, queer exclusion from family law regimes, reproductive autonomy questions, and the challenges of ensuring inclusive governance.

About the Resource Persons:

This Course will be conducted by a rich panel of academicians. The following are our panelists:

Dr. Sangha Mithra

Dr. Gnana Sanga Mithra S is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Research – Interdisciplinary) at Vinayaka Mission’s Law School, Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (DU), Chennai. A trained sociologist, her academic and policy-oriented research spans gender and transgender studies, migration, public health, climate change, and inclusive governance. She has published extensively in high-impact Scopus-indexed (Q1–Q3) journals, authored and edited scholarly volumes with Routledge, Springer, and Taylor & Francis. Dr. Mithra actively contributes to academic leadership as a reviewer and editorial board member for reputed international journals and as a resource person, session chair, and invited speaker at national and international conferences. Her work reflects a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research excellence, social justice, and evidence-based policy development, aligned with the institutional vision of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation.

Dr. Asang Wankhede

Dr Asang Wankhede, DPhil, MPhil in Law (University of Oxford), LLM (SOAS, Distinction) is a grassroots organiser and a lawyer specialising in anti-discrimination law. His focus area is caste, race, poverty and intersectionality. He is author of a leading monograph on Indian affirmative action. He actively engages at the UN on addressing caste and analogous forms of discrimination based on work and descent across Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa.

Dr. Ceren Kasim

Dr jur. Ceren Kasım is a researcher and consultant, currently serving as a research and teaching fellow in Germany. She holds a doctorate in law from the University of Göttingen and a master’s degree from Humboldt University of Berlin. Her work has been recognised with prestigious grants and scholarships, including from the DAAD, the Hans Böckler Foundation and the ISLSSL. She has contributed her expertise as an external consultant to the ITC-ILO and as a research expert to the ETUI, among other leading organisations. In addition to her scholarly pursuits, Dr Kasım is a qualified lawyer. She has practised law as a representative of the Turkish Social Security Institution and has worked extensively with trade unions. Her research is centred on international and European employment, anti-discrimination and social law, approached from a comparative perspective. Dr Kasım’s principal research interests encompass anti-discrimination, diversity and gender, as well as violence and harassment in the world of work.

4. Ms. Jwalika Balaji

Jwalika Balaji is a Research Fellow at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, Delhi. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (LLM-equivalent) degree from the University of Oxford and a BA LLB (Hons) from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. She is published in the areas of family law, anti-discrimination law, and human rights in international journals as well as print media. She has given guest lectures at many National Law Universities as well as other law colleges. She is on the Board of Directors at OutLawed India, a not-for-profit organisation working to improve access to law and justice.

Details of the Course:

The course shall be held in an online mode and has been scheduled for a total of 33 hours. The dates for the event are 1^st February – 22^nd February 2026. The detailed course outline containing specific details of all the lecture sessions has been attached with the body of this mail for reference.

Assessment of the Course:

As per the evaluation framework, the assessment for this Credit Course will consist of application-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The MCQ assessment will comprehensively cover all six modules and will test the participants’ understanding of constitutional principles, statutory frameworks, case law, and contemporary debates discussed throughout the course.

Payment Details:

The fee for this Credit Course is as follows which is payable through the ICICI Eazypay Gateway. The Course shall follow a two-tiered registration process as follows:

Early Bird Registration: INR 750 for NLUO students and INR 900 for non-NLUO students.
Regular Registration (Post-Early Bird): INR 900 for NLUO students and INR 1200 for non-NLUO students.

The deadline for the Early Bird registration is 20th January, 2026. Post that, the regular registrations shall continue till 30th January, 2026.

Payment through any other procedure shall not be accepted. Once the payment has been processed, the participants are requested to fill the Google form for registration and upload the payment receipt in the same form.
